Somebody's Watching Me is singer/songwriter Rockwell's debut album, released in 1984 on Motown. It featured the song, "Somebody's Watching Me" (with Michael Jackson on vocals in the chorus), as well as the top 40 hit "Obscene Phone Caller". After being kicked out of the house by his father, Motown founder Berry Gordy, Kennedy Gordy moved in with Ray Singleton, Gordy's ex-wife. While living there, the younger Gordy began working on some music.

Obscene Phone Caller Lyrics. I came home knocked out after work. That's when my telephone goes berserk How can I unwind or get some rest Receiving sick phone calls from a lonely pest Find someone else to bother Mister or Miss Obscene Phone Caller Why do you get off breathing on that phone. I don't know what's going thru' your mind. But these naughty phone calls are a waste of time I must have my number changed Or trace these calls from whence they came.

I assumed Rockwell likely couldn’t carry a tune and only got an album deal because he was Barry Gordy’s son, but I was wrong on both counts. It turns out that Rockwell can sing a little bit, and that Somebody’s Watching Me isn’t nearly as bad as I expected it to be. I’m not saying it’s great by any means, but I definitely didn’t wince as much as I thought I would when I listened to his version of Taxman for the first time. Somebody’s Watching Me peaked at on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1984, and the follow-up single Obscene Phone Caller cracked the Top 40 as well. That was pretty much it for Rockwell’s chart career, and as a result the Somebody’s Watching Me album is quite rare. It’s never been released on CD in the .
