Loop Guru - Amrita WD0033. White cover, double sided, two tacks on each side, But I dont see this release. An absolute delight to listen to, whether in parts or in whole! Interesting rhythms swirl throughout the album, accompanied by samples both ethereal and grounded (hear the fantastic kettle drums, vocal stutters, and operatic cries in "Yayli" for starters); this whole album sounds like distilled, unrestrained joy. Other Loop Guru albums suffered from a sense of slow-developing melancholy sometimes, but Amrita shows them at their best: mixing world music samples with danceable beats, a marriage sure to move your feet and make you smile.

The basic Loop Guru formula was established in this album: a multi-track soundscape, gamelan, flute, syncopated percussion, mysterious vocals and even more mysterious samples, blended into a smooth groove that was dreamy but still spirited. What followed was a flurry of activity with five albums in three years. All These & the Japanese Soup Warriors and Loop Bites Dog were more uptempo.

Loop Guru's main exuberant oeuvre of lively rhythms and effusive sounds is occasionally punctuated by more contemplative albums (. The Third Chamber) that are reminiscent and influenced by ambient music and similar to musical artists such as Brian Eno and Jon Hassell. Past and present guest musicians and collaborators include Natacha Atlas, Sussan Deyhim, Mad Jym, Count Dubulah (also known as Nick Page, Psycho Karaoke and Dub Colossus) and Cat von Trapp. United Kingdom All These and the Japanese Soup Warriors) (1995).
