The Partridge Family is an American musical sitcom starring Shirley Jones and featuring David Cassidy. Jones plays a widowed mother, and Cassidy plays the oldest of her five children who embark on a music career. It ran from September 25, 1970, until March 23, 1974, on the ABC network as part of a Friday-night lineup, and had subsequent runs in syndication. The family was loosely based on the real-life musical family the Cowsills, a popular band in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
WTH, The Partridge Family?" asked my 18 year old son when he saw the CD on my desk. I said yes, The Partridge Family. then I played it. He was shocked. What I also found fascinating was that they had the album fashioned as a magazine cover and article-wise on the back. This is a replacement copy of what I used to have on vinyl which I regrettably gave away along with the 3 Partridge singles among other 45s in my collection a decade later before graduating from high school as I moved from Millington to Plainfield.
The Partridge Family Sound Magazine is the third album by The Partridge Family. It was released on the Bell Records label in August 1971 and, like all of the Partridge Family recordings, was produced by Wes Farrell for Coral Rock Productions. The LP was certified gold in September of that year and is near-universally regarded – by both fans and critics – as the Partridge Family's consummate pop album.
Taking a page right out of the overwhelming phenomenon that was Monkee mania, The Partridge Family ran on ABC-TV from September 25, 1970, through August 31, 1974. Although the tunes were more or less a byproduct of the show's success, producer Wes Farrell actually incorporated the same methodology that Bert Schneider and Bob Rafelson had used on The Monkees. This involved primary cast members Shirley Jones and David Cassidy on lead vocals for all Partridge Family projects in addition to their chores as actors.
