Album opener ‘Dark Heart Ceremony’ exemplifies just how far the band has descended into the darkness, as an ominous piano introduction devolves into exemplary drum work, smooth, fast and absolutely thundering whilst Lewis’ vocals are throat tearingly evil, setting the tone for the rest of the album to come. Never fear though, Carnifex are definitely a deathcore/death metal band for those so inclined, with plenty of their old sound to go around. Pale Ghost’ and title track ‘Slow Death’ are as deathcore as it gets, replete with stomping riffs and brilliant deep throated growls.

If you have been lacking in new material to headbang to, then Slow Death is the perfect medicine for yo. .If I’m being truly honest with myself and with you, I have no problems with deathcore. It might not be the first sort of music I’d always like to listen to, but when deathcore is good, it is really, really good. This is especially coming from a world where deathcore is still looked down upon for not being heavy enough. But then there are bands like Carnifex who are loudly and proudly deathcore, but who do the genre so much justice that I can’t help but at least respect them.

Slow Death 03. Drown Me In Blood 04. Pale Ghost 0. Not too big a fan of deathcore, but I can't argue that Carnifex are that. Blackened death metal though? No. Certainly wouldn't refer to them as such, I mean maybe I need to listen more but I've never heard any black metal in their sound whatsoever. Early Carnifex was super generic deathcore, but they've added black metal influences over the years
