Close to You is the second studio album by American duo The Carpenters, released on August 19, 1970. In 2003, the album was ranked number 175 on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The album contains the hit singles "(They Long to Be) Close to You" and "We've Only Just Begun". The former was the duo's song that gained the Carpenters an international reputation for a decade.

Singles (1969-1981) expands the popular Singles (1969-1973) album with more of the group's later hits, such as "Please Mr. Postman," "Only Yesterday," "Touch Me When We're Dancing," and "I Won't Last a Day Without Yo. "(They Long to Be) Close to You," "We've Only Just Begun," "Superstar," and other '70s hits are still here, making this a definitive collection of their best-known songs. This Masquerade 09. Ticket To Ride 10. Top Of the World 11. Only Yesterday 12. Hurting Each Other 13.

Similar to the Carpenters' album Passage, it was a "gatefold" album, where the cover opened like a book to reveal a two page photograph of Karen looking absolutely terrific. Obviously the whole album here is all colorized, but it is the cover I saw- with real photos. The obvious similarities to the sounds of Michael Jackson's album Off the Wall come to mind with the first cut. I really do enjoy Michael's performances and the tight Quincy Jones production.

Carpenters were the selling American music act of the 1970s. Though often referred to as "The Carpenters", their name on official releases and press materials was "Carpenters". During a period in the 1970s when louder and wilder rock was in great demand, Richard and Karen produced a distinctively soft musical style that made them among the best-selling music artists of all time. Their 1973 album, "Now and Then", B-side consists of a 9-song medley of 60's hits recorded like a radio show. Carpenters' melodic pop, produced a record-breaking run of hits on the American Top 40 and Adult Contemporary charts, and they became leading sellers in the soft rock, easy listening and adult contemporary genres. Carpenters had three singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and fifteen hits on the Adult Contemporary Chart. In addition, they had twelve top 10 singles (including their hits).
