Man Of Aran is a soundtrack album from Brighton-based English indie rock band British Sea Power. It was released on 18 May 2009 in the UK. The CD album was released with an accompanying DVD of the 1934 film Man of Aran, to which the album serves as a score. Man of Aran" (Hamilton) - 3:39. The South Sound" - 11:32. Come Wander with Me" (Jeff Alexander) - 4:11. Tiger King" (Noble) - 5:16. Boy Vertiginous" (Yan) - 5:16. Spearing the Sunfish" - 11:42.
British Sea Power's soundtrack is an impression of an impression; a 21st century attempt to complement a 20th century film about an often 19th century way of life. And it works beautifully. Few bands could handle such subject matter so well, but they're a romantic bunch, BSP, and it's not hard to see why they chose to soundtrack this lovingly produced silent film. As an album Man Of Aran works well, but as a soundtrack to a film – a double package - it is as near perfect a depiction of coastal life as a George Mackay Brown poem or a Peter Maxwell Davies symphony. It is music and film in perfect symbiosis and should rightly be regarded as something of an understated classic.

A few years later, Hamilton and Wood joined them and formed a band. com/British Sea Power. Man of Aran is Flaherty's recreation of culture on the edges of modern society even though much of the primitive life depicted had been left behind by the 1930s.

Man of Aran, a 1934 docu-drama that chronicled the difficult daily lives of the inhabitants of Western Ireland's remote Aran Islands, boasts all of the elements (wind, water, sky, and barren landscapes) that make a successful British Sea Power song, so it's no revelation that the band's soundtrack for the film fits like a pair of weather-beaten oars. in a pair of equally ancient hands. While not as awe-inspiring as it yearns to be, Man of Aran deftly fuses the imagery of the open water to the sound it makes when dripping out of a vintage tube amplifier.
