Point of Departure is a studio album by American jazz pianist and composer Andrew Hill, recorded and released in 1965 on the Blue Note label. Point of Departure was reissued on CD by Blue Note in 1988 and again in 1999 when recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder remastered the album, adding alternate takes of "New Monastery", "Flight 19", and "Dedication".

Though I do believe Hill makes some important discoveries here, this is a very serious, stony-faced, methodical album, without an ounce of fun to temper its academic inflection. Andrew Hill was a jazz pianist who only made the music he wanted to make. He is probably better known for this album than for all the other albums of his rather big oeuvre. Hill's complex constellations in the early and mid-60's stretched widely between well-known post-bop and avant-garde jazz
