Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon (1973). Update Required To play the media you will need to either update your browser to a recent version or update your Flash plugin.
The Dark Side of the Moon is the eighth studio album by English rock band Pink Floyd, released on 1 March 1973 by Harvest Records. Primarily developed during live performances, the band premiered an early version of the record several months before recording began. New material was recorded in two sessions in 1972 and 1973 at Abbey Road Studios in London.
Matrix, Runout (Label A): SHVL 804A.
Floyd fans were first treated to Dark Side of the Moon in concert more than a year before the album was actually released. Though the lush textures and spacious arrangements of Dark Side of the Moon make it sound like a purely studio project, the band actually aired out all of the songs in concert – in the exact same sequence that they would appear on the album – more than a year before the album’s official release. The members of Pink Floyd often spent their downtime during the Dark Side sessions watching Monty Python’s Flying Circus on BBC2, so when the British comedy troupe ran into difficulty raising money for their first full-length feature film, the Floyd – now flush with cash from the sales of Dark Side – were more than happy to pony up 10 percent of.
Thanks for your vote! This is a full version of Dark Side Of The Moon that I made a while back. It is a compilation of other people's backing tracks from this site as well as samples from the original album. On The Run" is only a fade in and fade out so that people can improvise something within that middle space instead of just sitting there waiting for it to finish. No lead guitar, no vocals.
One of the great things about an album like The Dark Side Of The Moon, for example, is what is not played. The way instruments appear and then GO AWAY! Sometimes for great periods of time. The Hammond Organ enters for the first time on the Run rabbit run line in Breathe and then goes away until the middle of The Great Gig in the Sky, then doesn’t reappear until Us and Them, then goes away until Brain Damage / Eclipse. It is only on 4 songs on the whole record. John Carin, t and singer, recurring session musician for Pink Floyd, David Gilmour and Roger Waters since 1987. Produced by Pink Floyd.

Pink Floyd would have been a perfect match for the visually oriented era of Pinterest and Tumblr had the band emerged today. Nowhere is the power of Pink Floyd’s visual appeal more apparent than the cover for the album The Dark Side of the Moon, released 44 years ago. The Dark Side of the Moon is not only one of the greatest albums ever made, its cover became an visual icon for Pink Floyd itself - a quiet, mysterious team of four musicians who let their music and visual stories speak for them. For its ability to create mystery and intrigue for four decades, The Dark Side of the Moon joins my hall of fame of memorable album covers

This program takes a track by track look at the making of the 1973 album. All four members of the band at that time Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright are featured in exclusive interviews. Roger, David and Richard play songs and demonstrate themes from the album. Alan Parsons (the original engineer) takes us through the multi track tapes giving a unique insight into the musical fabric of the record and the programme is illustrated throughout with archive footage."
