The music of Louisiana can be divided into three general regions: rural south Louisiana, home to Creole Zydeco and Old French (now known as cajun music), New Orleans, and north Louisiana. The region in and around Greater New Orleans has a unique musical heritage tied to Dixieland jazz, blues, and Afro-Caribbean rhythms. The music of the northern portion of the state starting at Baton Rouge and reaching Shreveport has similarities to that of the rest of the US South.

Various - Kings Of Country Blues Volume 2 . In the early 1960s, he opened a music store and began building accordions for sale. His wife Ann (b. 1952) performs in the band as a singer and guitarist; she is also a Cajun music historian and author. Michael Doucet (b. 1951), the band’s fiddler, grew up surrounded by traditional music in southwest Louisiana. Great compilation with old cajun music. Cleoma Falcon, Joseph Falcon, Amede Ardoin, Dennis McGhee etc.

Cajun music has its roots based in the ballads of the French-speaking Acadians of Canada, and in country music. The first form of traditional cajun music began before the 20th century in south Louisiana. When the Acadians came from New Brunswick & Nova Scotia to Louisiana in 1764, they brought with them many beautiful ballads that told stories of bygone years

Aside from wondrous historic music 'Volume 4' is another loving tribute to the eccentric genius of the irascible Harry Smith. Without this offering, you certainly don't have the entire 'Anthology', and although the packaging doesn't match the Smithsonian set, it is very nicely done--just don't try to put it in your plastic CD rack. It's hard to imagine that anything could be better than the original Folkways box set (Volumes 1-3), but this album is. Everything I love about V1-3, there is even more of here. The eerie juxtaposition of darkness and jubilation pretty much sums up the whole 20th Century in an hour and a half. 16 people found this helpful.

Louisiana's famous Cajun bands and musicians biographies and information. He was also one of the first Cajun musicians to record the music of the Acadiana region of Louisiana. Only 34 recordings are known to exist. SADY COURVILLE (1905 – 1988) was a Cajun fiddler known for his collaborations with Dennis McGee. Some of the pair’s earliest work was recorded in New Orleans in 1929. IRY LeJEUNE (1928 – 1955) was one of most popular and best selling Cajun musicians in the late 1940s and 1950s
