Anthem of the Peaceful Army is the debut studio album by American rock band Greta Van Fleet. The album was released on October 19, 2018, and follows the band's two EP releases, Black Smoke Rising and From the Fires. The first single, "When the Curtain Falls", was released in July 2018. The album was the top selling album in its debut week in the US, selling 80,000 copies
Greta Van Fleet sound like they did weed exactly once, called the cops, and tried to record a Led Zeppelin album before they arrested themselves. The poor kids from Frankenmuth, Michigan don’t even realize they’re more of an algorithmic fever dream than an actual rock band. Though their debut album, Anthem of the Peaceful Army, sounds like a bona fide classic rock record-with its fuzzy bass, electric sitar solos, and lyrics featuring the kind of self-actualized transcendence brought on by a few too many multivitamins-it is not actually classic rock. They are a new kind of vampiric band who’s there to catch the runoff of original classic rock using streaming services’ data-driven business model. Greta Van Fleet exist to be swallowed into the algorithm’s churn and rack up plays, of which they already have hundreds of millions.
Released October 19, 2018. Anthem of the Peaceful Army Tracklist. 1. Age of Man Lyrics. 2. The Cold Wind Lyrics. It features 11 tracks, and has been produced by Al Sutton & Marlon Young in Rustbelt Studios, Michigan. 'Anthem of the Peaceful Army’‘ was originally a poem written by Josh Kiszka. Later, when they had started recording their debut album, he realized that poem embodied the meaning and purpose of the album. In a press release, the band have detailed a list of themes that the album explores, with everything from fresh starts and adventure to courage, myth and truth being covered. Anthem of the Peaceful Army Q&A.
Greta Van Fleet Extend North American 'March of the Peaceful Army' Tour. Woodstock 50: Jay Z, Dead & C. Chance the Rapper Headlining. The Struts Expand 2019 'Young and Dangerous' Tour. Greta Van Fleet seem like they lept fully-formed from the skull of a rock critic in 1975. Three brothers and a bud from a tourist town near Saginaw, Michigan, they come bearing shamelessly recycled Zeppelin-isms with a frontman who seems to have heard Rush’s 2112 a few times.
Lover, leaver t-shirt + album. Anthem of the peaceful army dad hat + album. Full moon t-shirt + album. Anthem of the peaceful army tee + album. Anthem of the peaceful army poem tee + album. Anthem of the peaceful army crewneck + album. Rose PIN + lover, leaver digital album.
And with good reason: Greta Van Fleet take a full-on bath in the vibes of Zep in their early-‘70s growth period, and Josh Kiszka sounds an awful lot like Robert Plant (particularly when saying the word ‘baby’). But to call this a mere tribute is a mistake. What Anthem Of The Peaceful Army does is use that as a starting point, before sending its tendrils off down their own paths. As it jumps off from the high place in which Greta Van Fleet already find themselves, Anthem Of The Peaceful Army is an album that will do the band very well. It’s a record that lives up to the hype preceding it without seeming like it’s trying to, and that shows off this youthful quartet as a truly skilled band, musically wise beyond their years and ready to conquer the world. Greta Van Fleet’s album, Anthem Of The Peaceful Army is out now through Virgin EMI/Lava.
Geta Van Fleet have divided opinion more than any other band in recent rock history, and in the age of polarised opinion the chasm is even more noticeable. For every person who loves the band for their youthful exuberance and for their similarity to artists of yore, others despair for the very same reasons. As a contrast to Anthem of the Peaceful Army, The Struts fucking nuked everybody with their new album this week, which spans classic rock, ranging from Queen and Elton John, through Rocky Horror and T-Rex, to David Bowie and Oasis – all wrapped up in a sound that is undeniably The Struts. That is what Greta is missing.
Rarely does a rock band arrive on the scene quite like Greta Van Fleet did, making an immediate splash last year with their "Highway Tune" song premiere (which came right here at Loudwire). Within weeks, the band had begun attracting a fanbase, and they had not yet released (or even recorded) their debut album. 2017 saw the group string together two EPs - Black Smoke Rising and From the Fires - but their fans have been eagerly awaiting their proper full-length debut. With so much hype and anticipation, there is plenty at stake.
