Greatest Hits is a 2001 compilation album by The Cure. The band's relationship with longtime label Fiction Records came to a close, and The Cure were obliged to release one final album for the label. Robert Smith agreed to release a greatest hits album under the condition that he could choose the tracks himself. The band also recorded a special studio album released as a bonus disc to some versions of the album

Disintegration and worldwide success (1989–2002) In 1989, The Cure released the album Disintegration, which saw a return to the gothic atmospheres of earlier releases like Faith and Pornography. It became their highest charting album in the UK to date, entering at number three and featuring three Top 30 singles in the UK and Germany ("Lullaby", "Lovesong" and "Pictures of You").

The Cure’s Greatest Hits album marks the end of the band’s contract with Fiction Records, and the end of the band’s career in the 20th century, covering all of the band’s biggest hits from 1979 to 2001. It reached on the UK album chart and on the Billboard chart
