John Coltrane recorded Sun Ship in 1965, among the last sessions by the classic John Coltrane Quartet (pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Jimmy Garrison and drummer Elvin Jones), marking the end of a year in which Coltrane arguably reached his creative peak. Sun Ship was not released until 1971, one of several Coltrane albums that came out after his death. This album is a high-resolution digital transfer of material originating from an analogue recording. As such, it is offered as a high-resolution documentation of a historical release.

The album Sun Ship captures John Coltrane’s vast musical and moral change; the complete session documents it in action, like a sonic documentar. I’ve always thought of Coltrane as an essentially religious artist whose seraphic spirituality seemed clear and bright (though often earthy and rugged).

Sun Ship is a avant-garde jazz music album recording by JOHN COLTRANE released in 1971 on CD, LP/Vinyl and/or cassette. JOHN COLTRANE - Sun Ship. Filed under Avant-Garde Jazz By JOHN COLTRANE.
