Opeth - Watershed flac album

Watershed is the ninth full-length studio album by the Swedish progressive metal band Opeth. Released by Roadrunner Records, Watershed is the first studio album by Opeth to feature guitarist Fredrik Åkesson and drummer Martin Axenrot, who replaced longtime guitarist Peter Lindgren and drummer Martin Lopez. The artwork for the album was made by Travis Smith (who has created the artwork for eight previous Opeth releases) in collaboration with Mikael Åkerfeldt.

Album Name Watershed. Released date 30 May 2008. Labels Roadrunner Records. The album starts off with "Coil" which almost has an upbeat and romantic feel to it. Mike's voice then being replaced by a beautiful woman's. Brutality follows with the next track, and once the third track "The Lotus Eaters" starts, its hard to tell where Opeth would decide to tred next. The result is a roller coaster ride down both ends of the significant Opethian spectrum. Large, epic metal parts mixed with the beautiful elements that makes progressive music so appealing.

Opeth's ninth studio album doesn't disappoint either. While Watershed isn't in the band's upper echelon of albums – a spot reserved for Damnation, Blackwater Park, and Still Life - it's still a quality record that meets, and at times exceeds, the standard Opeth has set over the years. Watershed opens up rather differently than Opeth's past works. Coil" is solely an acoustic track, but unlike the material featured on Damnation, it isn't quite as dark or depressing

Opeth, interestingly, have straddled both prog aesthetics. The Swedish band's first record, 1995's Orchid, was wonderfully raw. It was half death metal and half "other stuff"- folk, prog, blues, jazz. The rawness came from a low budget and nascent songwriting, but it conveyed an atmosphere that Opeth never regained. Their records afterwards decreased in friction as their chops improved. In 2002, the band became practically frictionless. He sounds like your lovable Swedish uncle who once recorded a folk album. But Watershed has friction, and friction brings heat. Those left cold by metal's po-faced tendencies might well warm up to it.
