Comparisons of these two great recordings are futile, but they represent two of the finest performances of Das Lied von der Erde on disc. Ferrier’s performance is unquestionably moving, and Forester represents another impressive interpretation of the part. Forester and Lewis would appear again in Das Lied von der Erde in a concert on 16 April1960 at Carnegie Hall, in a performance of the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra led by Bruno Walter.

Only 6 left in stock (more on the way). While this recording of Mahler's wonderful "Das Lied von der Erde" is certainly acceptable, well-played and precise; the orchestra seems to lack some compassion compared to Bernstein's recording that was made with the Israel Philharmonic featuring the same soloists (Rene Kollo and Christa Ludwig). Along this line, while Karajan's Berlin Philharmonic seems to try hard to impress, Bernstein's Israelis create a crisper, edgier and more sincere sound. The Austrian composer Gustav Mahler penned down ("The Song of the Earth"), published in the autumn of 1907, as a large-scale work for two vocal soloists and orchestra. Published on April 5, 2008.

return of the doubts of the third movement and the questions of the first – ends with a fervent hope for everlasting, transcendent renewal, a theme that Mahler would ultimately transfigure into the music of Das Lied von der Erde.
