Both sides of the Travels in Constants single foreshadow 2004’s Pyramid Electric Co. and other future solo works. While perhaps not the easiest entry point for the uninitiated, for Molina fans, the two songs are an invaluable glance into his divine spaces. It’s a profound chance to know him, without explanation.

Travels in Constants Series, Vol. 14. 2002. It features one sprawling (nearly 18 minutes), untitled, and unaccompanied song. But with just an acoustic guitar and his voice, Jason Molina has no trouble commanding attention. The song starts with a two-minute introductory guitar solo that has an almost flamenco feel, but by the time he begins singing, it has grown spare and foreboding. In keeping with the theme of the CD series, the lyrics evoke travel, speaking of caravans and compasses.

Komplett macht das Re-Issue „Howler, ein weiterer, ungewöhnlicher langer Song, der wie „Travels In Constants 2011 in einer Auflage von 1000 Stück veröffentlicht wurde. Diese beiden Tracks zählen zu den abstrakt-wunderschönsten und beängstigend zerbrechlichen Tracks, die Molina jemals aufgenommen hat.

These tracks are amongst the most abstractly beautiful and alarmingly delicate music that Molina ever committed to tape. Molina once remarked that it was "probably too out there" for a proper Songs: Ohia album, which is perhaps why is felt right at home in this context.
