Jason Andrew Molina (December 30, 1973 – March 16, 2013) was an American musician and singer-songwriter. Raised in northern Ohio, he came to prominence performing and recording as Songs: Ohia, both in solo projects and with a rotating cast of musicians in the late 1990s. Beginning in 2003, he would garner a further indie following for his releases with the band Magnolia Electric Co.

Songs: Ohia was largely a project of revolving musicians with singer-songwriter Jason Molina (December 30, 1973 – March 16, 2013) as its center and sole stable member. Critics and fans alike have found considerable difficulty in trying to define the band's changing sound, usually settling on more general labels such as indie rock, lo-fi, folk or alt-country. Jason Molina died on 16 March 2013. Membri: Jason Molina.

Songs: Ohia is one man - Jason Molina - a tenor guitar-wielding songwriter from the shores of Lake Erie. Molina was born in Lorain, OH. Growing up on a heavy dosage of Black Sabbath, Molina began his musical career playing bass in heavy metal bands around Cleveland. Always a songwriter, Molina eventually decided to perform and record solo with help as needed

In 2000, Songs: Ohia released two albums, The Lioness and Ghost Tropic, which featured musical assistance from Alasdair Roberts (Appendix Out) and Shane Aspegren (Lullaby for the Working Class); the latter album saw Molina beginning to incorporate ethnic musics into his compositions. Documenting an Italian show from the previous year, a large part of Mi Sei Apparso Come un Fantasma (You Come to Me as a Ghost) consisted of unreleased (and as yet untitled) songs. By this time, Molina.

Recorded in Glasgow, Scotland with Aidan Moffat and David Gow of Arab Strap, and Ali Roberts of Appendix Out, The Lioness explores similar territory as the previous Songs: Ohia album, Axxess and Ace, namely the volatility of relationships. But the mood here is much bleaker than the previous album, and there's more of a feeling a desperation in Jason Molina's vocals. On the opening track, "The Black Crow," he sings "I look down, and see the whole world, and it's fading

Songs: Ohia records are composed of melancholy acoustic ballads fusing folk and country, and while Molina doesn't shy away from writing about love, his aren't songs that could be subtitled, "How I Felt When the Second Girlfriend in a Row Left Me for a Member of Hot Water Music. Aided this time around by members of Arab Strap and Appendix Out, Molina has crafted a more subtle and consistent record. Tigress," "Coxcomb Red" and the album's title track each come close to achieving the status I've granted to "Captain Badass.

Songs:Ohia is singer songwriter Jason Molina, an Ohio native who has made a career out of imitating the Palace Brothers: a quasi-yodeling falsetto, bitter lyrics of heartache, lonely acoustic guitar, spare pseudo-country arrangements, stark melodrama. THe EP One Pronunciation Of Glory (Secretly Canadian, 1997), an intellectual concept dedicated to historical figures, was a prelude to the suicidal dirges and stately odes of Songs:Ohia (Secretly Canadian, 1997). The obsessively mournful tone of Impala (Happy Go Lucky, 1998) makes it difficult to discern the music from the mood.
