Sound of Contact’s debut album Dimensionaut is a concept album about a dimensional time and space traveler called Dimo who is on a mission to expand the boundaries of the human experience. The album features a wide range of styles and dynamics from dark and mysterious progressive rock to nostalgic classic rock to high energy alternative to sci-fi film score-infused space rock. Simon first hit the music scene in the year 2000 with his debut album All of Who You Are with songs like Pride charting all over Eastern and Western Europe.

Sound Of Contact have been around for a while, but their first album comes out only now. The band took their time with the album and they also needed to find a record company, which turned out to be InsideOut. This may seem peculiar to some people, for InsideOut are a record label for prog bands. But quite a bit of the music Sound Of Contact play falls right into this genre  . The balladesque I Am Dimensionaut takes some speed out of the journey. It has quite a thick blanket of guitars, particularly in the chorus. The song later moves into a playful jam where you can hear typical Collins drum fills. The song is a fine transition to one of the album highlights, Not Coming Down.

Yes, Simon Collins vocals do sound a bit like his dads (Phil Collins), and his drumming is sensational. But don't think it's all deja-vu. This is a fresh and sparkling look on prog with music that fascinates and drags you in. The production sounds very mature for a first release, and the musicianship is obviously sensational. Catchy riffs, euphoria, melancholy, and epics. It's all there, well balanced, well performed, yet...different! I've witnessed that this band works even better in a live setting, and it reveals that they are capable of even more. Please check them out. I have the feeling it's only just begun, and this may be the next big thing in the prog world!Disclaimer: Whilst game changing albums such as Sergeant Peppers, Dark Side Of The Moon, or Nevermind arguably deserve 5 stars, not everything can be in that league. (And a 3 star hotel can be a fine hotel, too!)
