Object 47 is the eleventh studio album by the English post punk band Wire, named so because it is the 47th item in the Wire discography - a methodology harking back to the name of their 1979 album, 154, which was named after the number of concerts they had played to that point. It is the first Wire album without the participation of guitarist Bruce Gilbert. It was released on 7 July 2008 in the UK and on 15 July in the US. All tracks written by Wire.

Object 47 marks an unexpected turning point in the 30-year history of Wire: It's their first album that doesn't feature all the original members. When drummer Robert Gotobed (née Robert Grey) temporarily fired himself from the band in 1990, reasoning that drum machines had rendered him redundant, the remaining members shortened the bandname to Wir. For whatever reason, the recent departure of Bruce Gilbert- who made only minimal contributions to the Read & Burn 03 EP- hasn't led to the same symbolic gesture.

Album Name Object 47. Type Album.

Regardless of their legendary artistic contrariness, Wire always deliver catchy songs and, in addition to the opener, Object 47 boasts several. On "Perspex Icon," the combination of stop-start buzzsaw guitar rhythms with Newman's bright, tuneful vocal proves highly infectious. Equally memorable are Lewis' turns at the mic - the funky "Are You Ready?" and "Mekon Headman," a denser, more insistent number accentuating the minimalist cymbal detail Grey minted on Pink Flag

In fact they're hilarious. With the distortion turned down, you can hear the words, and sing the tunes. The head-banging Dalek stomp of All Fours ends the album on a rousing note. They may be middle-aged but I wouldn’t call Wire 'classic rock'. Is there a sub-genre called 'intelligent, adventurous, 21st century rock n roll'? That's what I call Wire. Talk about Wire - Object 47

WOGY
Anybody have a long strange etching in the dead wax on the Read and Burn ep? Part of it is a repeated herring bone pattern that gives way to parallel lines intersected by a few horizontals, making a barbed wire fence feel, but not.

I am sure the title refers to the so-called 'Roswell Event",cool ,but no space cigar.
Spilberg
Wrong. It is the 47th object in their discography. No cigar for you. 154 was named after the number of live shows they played up to that point. But whose counting?
