Upon its release in 1974, Gene Clark's No Other was soundly reviled as an exercise in studio and financial excess, a critical and commercial failure - it was pop music's Heaven's Gate.
No Other is the fourth solo studio album by American singer-songwriter Gene Clark. Released in late 1974, it was initially a critical success but a commercial failure; the studio time and cost were seen as excessive and indulgent. The record label, Asylum Records, did not promote the album, and by 1976 had deleted it from their catalog. Clark never recovered from the failure of the album.
Produced by Tommy Kaye. All alone you say That you don't want no other So the Lord is love And love is like no other If the falling tide Can turn and then recover All alone we must Be part of one another. All alone you say The power is perfection Is the power peace Or merely the connenction To the God of Love That powers the protection From the tide of life That flows in each direction. When the stream of changing days Turns around in so many ways Then the pilot of the mind Must find the right direction.
White Light, aka Gene Clark, is the second solo album by Gene Clark, former member of The Byrds. It received critical acclaim upon its release, but only achieved commercial success in the Netherlands, where rock critics also voted it album of the year. Like all of his post-Byrds records, it did very poorly on the US charts. In 2018 independent reissue label Intervention Records announced that it would be reissuing White Light on CD/SACD with expected release of the album in the early summer of 2018.
