Echoes is a repackaging of Gene Clark's debut album, Gene Clark With the Gosdin Brothers. The Byrds comparison is really unavoidable: it's both Clark's best solo work and, not coincidentally, the one which resembles the Byrds most strongly. Indeed, this could easily pass for a somewhat less-than-average vintage Byrds album, with actual Byrds Chris Hillman and Michael Clarke forming the rhythm section and Vern and Rex Gosdin on guitar (hence the title)

Gene Clark was an American singer-songwriter and founding member of the Byrds. His discography consists of 7 studio albums, 3 live albums, 10 compilations, 2 EPs, and 10 singles. 1967: Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers (Columbia). 1971: White Light aka Gene Clark (A&M). 1973: Roadmaster (A&M). 1974: No Other (Asylum). 1977: Two Sides to Every Story (RSO). 1984: Firebyrd (Takoma) - reissued in 1995 as This Byrd Has Flown (Edsel) with additional tracks.

Gene Clark, born Harold Eugene Clark (born Tipton, Missouri, November 17, 1944 - May 24, 1991) was an American singer-songwriter, and one of the founding members of the folk-rock group The Byrds. Gene Clark is best remembered for being The Byrds main songwriter between 1964 and 1966. He created a large catalogue of music in several genres but failed to achieve solo commercial success.

Notes

This compilation contains six cuts by The Byrds, penned by Gene Clark while he was still in the band, all of 1967's "Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers", two unreleased songs from 1967, "The French Girl" and "Only Colombe," and a demo of "So You Say You Lost Your Baby".

The mixes of the songs from "Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers" are not the original album mixes, but remixes done later. The most important change is the removal of vocal double-tracking.
