Meddle is the sixth studio album by English progressive rock group Pink Floyd, released on 31 October 1971 by Harvest Records. It was produced between the band’s touring commitments, from January to August 1971. With no material to work with and no clear idea of the album’s direction, the group devised a series of novel experiments which eventually inspired the album’s signature track, Echoes.

Echoes" is a song by English rock band Pink Floyd, and the sixth and final track from their 1971 album Meddle. It was written in 1970 by all four members of the group. Containing several extended instrumental passages, largely ambient sound effects, and musical improvisation, the track has a running time of 23:31 and comprises the entire second side of the vinyl and cassette recordings.

Arriving bereft of ideas, Pink Floyd did something that was becoming increasingly rare on Meddle: They collaborated together in the studio. At first, this didn't lead to much. The album, before its arrival on Oct. 31, 1971, was actually known as Nothing, Parts 1-24. Recorded in a series of locales around London between concert dates, Meddle eventually came together with help – both instrumentally and lyrically – from all four members, a stark contrast to the Roger Waters-dominated albums to come in the '70s.

This is the second batch of remastered titles, released in groups of four, but "Meddle" is the first I have purchased on vinyl (since the originals, I mean). Meddle" marked the "second-phase" in Floyd's career; Sid Barrett was long gone and this album marks the real starting point where Waters and Gilmore turned the corner and headed toward the Dark Side Of The Moon.
