Ashes to Ashes" is a song written and recorded by David Bowie. It was the lead single from the 1980 album Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) and became Bowie's second UK No. 1 single. It is also known for its innovative video, directed by Bowie and David Mallet, which at the time was the most expensive music video ever made. The lyrics revisit Bowie's Major Tom character from 1969's "Space Oddity" in a darker theme, which he referenced once again in 1995 with "Hallo Spaceboy"

Ashes To Ashes" lyrics. Do you remember a guy that's been In such an early song I've heard a rumour from Ground Control Oh no, don't say it's true. They got a message from the Action Man "I'm happy. Ashes to ashes, funk to funky We know Major Tom's a junkie Strung out in heaven's high Hitting an all-time low. Time and again I tell myself I'll stay clean tonight But the little green wheels are following me Oh, no, not again. I'm stuck with a valuable friend "I'm happy.

David Bowie returned to relatively conventional rock & roll with Scary Monsters, an album that effectively acts as an encapsulation of all his '70s experiments. Though it doesn't have the vision of his other classic records, it wasn't designed to break new ground - it was created as the culmination of Bowie's experimental genre-shifting of the '70s.

Scary Monsters mainly serves as a transitional album in Bowie’s career. While the album partly serves as Bowie’s final goodbye to his career up to that point (with referential songs), he also questions what opportunities await him in the 80s with others

Ashes to Ashes" is a single by David Bowie, released in 1980. It made in the UK and was the first cut from the Scary Monsters album, also a hit. As well as its musical qualities, it is noted for its innovative video, directed by Bowie and David Mallet. The lyrics revisit Bowie's Major Tom character from "Space Oddity", which he referenced once again in 1996 with "Hallo Spaceboy". Bowie has said that with "Ashes to Ashes" he was, "wrapping up the seventies really for myself, and that seemed a good enough epitaph for it".

Talk about David Bowie - Monsters To Ashes

Quellik
Everything on here seems legit except for the "Unreleased Disco Mix" of Ashes To Ashes. Poor sound quality and seems homemade. "I Am A Laser" is a song written by Bowie in 1973 which has parallels with "Scream Like A Baby." It was recorded in 1973 with Ava Cherry (a member of his group of backing singers The Astronettes) singing lead vocals, but it was not released until 1995. The demos on here have a fair amount of tape hiss. Hope that helps.

A neat collection of outtakes and rarities from the Scary Monsters sessions; the live renditions of Life on Mars and The Man Who Sold the World are fantastic – quite possibly the best live versions I've ever heard.

This is a beautiful package, but the poor sound quality throughout is disappointing.
