Station to Station" is a song by English musician David Bowie. It was written and recorded at Cherokee Studios, Los Angeles, in 1975, and released in January 1976 as the title track and opener of Bowie's tenth studio album as well as on a promotional 7-inch single in France. The song is Bowie's longest studio recording, at just over 10 minutes

About Station to Station. David Bowie was painfully and intimately aware of the tension between the desire to experience deep feelings and the desire to attain cold safety–frequently by being an alien, outside, and aloof. A canon is an accepted group of works, usually referring to works of a high quality (eg, the canon of Western literature includes the works of Dante, Shakespeare, Mark Twain, et. The song was written at a time when Bowie was artistically, intellectually, and spiritually turning away from America and back to his European roots–he’s returning to the European canon and the greatest hits of European thought and culture

Before performing Station to Station‘s melancholy Word on a Wing, he added that the song was unwittingl. signal of distress; I’m sure that it was a call for help. And yet, according to guitarist Carlos Alomar, when Bowie and the band hit Cherokee Studios to make a new album in the fall of 1975, all of the havoc was left at the door. When we were in work mode, it was always about the work, he says. If it was fueled by coke or by whatever, David was always able to manage the decision-making. And it was always the same concern for him: ‘What are the lyrics, and what am I going to talk.

The Station To Station album was recorded after Bowie completed shooting Nicolas Roeg's The Man Who Fell To Earth, and the cover features a still from the movie. The line, "Making sure white stains" is a reference to Aleister Crowley's first book, White Stains. This is Bowie's longest studio recording, clocking in at 10 minutes and 11 seconds. For a full minute, sampled locomotives clatter from speaker to speaker and the coke-deranged singer makes his entrance at 3:17. More songs from David Bowie. Station to Station is the 10th studio album by English musician David Bowie, released by RCA Records in 1976. Commonly regarded as one of his most significant works, Station to Station was the vehicle for his performance persona, the Thin White Duke. The album was recorded after he completed shooting Nicolas Roeg’s The Man Who Fell to Earth, and the cover artwork featured a still from the movie. During the sessions, Bowie was heavily dependent on drugs, especially cocaine, and later claimed that he recalled almost nothing of the production. This trend would culminate in some of his most acclaimed work, the so-called Berlin Trilogy, recorded with Brian Eno in 1977–79. Bowie himself said that Station to Station was a plea to come back to Europe for me. The album’s lyrics reflected his preoccupations with Friedrich Nietzsche, Aleister Crowley, mythology and religion.
