Gas (stylized as GAS or G A S) is the main musical project of German electronic musician and composer Wolfgang Voigt (born 1961). The project was created as an expressive medium inspired by his experiences with taking LSD in the Königsforst, a German forest situated near his hometown of Cologne, for long periods in his youth. He has claimed that the intention of the project is to "bring the forest to the disco, or vice-versa".

Hello, just a question: is track number 4 in this CD the same track of track A in the Gas Nah Und Fern 2008 double LP for Kompakt? Reply See 2 replies Notify me Helpful.

Wolfgang Voigt will release his first album as Gas in 17 years on April 21st. The German artist released four albums of dense, symphonic ambient techno under the alias in the late '90s and early 2000s, which are widely understood to be among the most enduring recordings of contemporary electronic music. The project brought together the throb of techno, images of the country's forests, and references to the German Romantic classical tradition.

Wolfgang Voigt is an electronic music artist from Cologne, Germany, known for his output under various aliases on a plethora of record labels, including Warp, Harvest, Raster-Noton and Force Inc. Although widely known as a tireless producer, he is best known for co-founding the influential German label Kompakt alongside Michael Mayer and Jürgen Paape. Aliases include: All, Auftrieb, Brom, .

Earlier this year Wolfgang Voigt announced his first album under the ambient techno moniker Gas in 17 years. Voigt previously explained how Narkopop breaks from the hypnotic loops of previous Gas albums and instead unfold their magic in a more entwined manner, sometimes with the sonic might of an entire philharmonic orchestra, sometimes as subtle and fragile as the most delicate branch of a tree with many. The description fits Narkopop, which doesn’t disturb the original arc of Gas’s first era ending on 2000’s flawless Pop. It stands on its own instead, with Voigt taking advantage of the album’s runtime – Narkopop is the longest Gas album to date – to hone and develop his sound further.

Wolfgang Voigt’s sixth album under his GAS moniker, Rausch, starts almost how we’d expect it to. Following last year’s Narkopop, Voigt continues down a similar path with a rich, cinematic effort of blooming ambient music. In a lot of ways, Rausch can be seen as a semi-continuation of Narkopop. Its sounds and textures are clearer, more defined, and more polished.

Hello. Tracks titled "Nah und Fern" from this release and from Nah und Fern LP (Kompakt, 2008) are different. On this release there are not techno beats in track. You can call it "original version". On Nah und Fern LP, that was released on Kompakt, techno beats were added to this track. You can listen and compare.

This is a fine Dark adventure that this Album brings to you, i imagine myself wandering in obscure dangerous places, peeking at every corner to see if the path is clear for me to find a exit. This Album would have work very well as soundtrack for the game Thief, or even when reading a Horror Book, this album provides a perfect soundtrack as well. The track "November 89" and "Nah und Fern" are my favourite, they are hypnotizing and with a real sense of darkness.
