A Saucerful of Secrets is the second studio album by the English rock band Pink Floyd, released on 29 June 1968 by EMI Columbia in the United Kingdom (following adverts in Melody Maker giving that date) and released on 27 July 1968 in the United States by Tower Records. The album was recorded before and after Syd Barrett's departure from the group. With Barrett's behaviour becoming increasingly unpredictable, David Gilmour was recruited to compliment Barrett, and eventually to replace him.

Pink Floyd will reissue the mono mix of their second album A Saucerful of Secrets as a vinyl release for Record Store Day, April 13th. Unlike the Beatles or Rolling Stones, the band transitioned to stereo fairly quickly, making this one of the rare albums in their catalog that originally came out in mono. The audio was remastered from the original 1968 mono mix by James Guthrie, Joel Plante and Bernie Grundman.

My 3 freakiest choices for pink floyd are Saucerful Of Secrets One of these Days Set the Controls fir the Heart of the Sun. Scott from Portland, OrPink Floyd really got this song down in the 1972 concerts which are on several bootlegs. The best is the "Hollywood Bowl 1972". Celestial Voices" has Gilmour playing the melody through a long long delay that seems to float over you and the song ends with the sounds of fireworks being launched. Charlotte from Seattle, WaI agree, the live album is amazing. The last song when the vocals come is is great - I think all Pink Floyd fans should hear this album and Meddle. Kelly from Los Angeles, CaI prefer the live Ummagumma version to the studio version. To have been in the audience when they performed that song would have been so cool!

On their second album, Pink Floyd shifted from quirky psych-pop to a full-on space-rock assault. A Saucerful of Secrets was a giant step towards the kind of cosmic exploits they'd soon be famous for. Syd Barrett ceded the spotlight to new guitarist David Gilmour, but the trippy intensity of extended tracks like the hypnotic, Eastern-tinged "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" and the brain-melting avant-garde title track left no doubt that Floyd were the rulers of the acid-rock realm.
